Obituary of Viola Maude Higgins

Halifax, N.S.- It is with sadness that the family of Viola Maude Higgins of Halifax, N.S., formerly of Amherst, N.S., announce her passing at Melville Lodge, Halifax, on March 18, 2011. Born on December 4, 1910, Sackville, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Walter Roy and Lucy Mabel (Embree) Melanson. Vi was a resident of Sackville, Amherst, and Halifax. She was employed by Watlings of Amherst and Klines and Mills Brothers of Halifax. She was a long-time member of St. Mathews United Church and the UCW. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Vi was pre-deceased by her husband Gordon Thomas Higgins, brother Harold Melanson (Mac), and sister Jean Hamilton (Gordon). Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 11 am with Rev. Catherine Gaw officiating. A time of visitation will take place from 10 am until the time of the service. Burial will take place in the spring in the Sackville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Vi’s memory may be made to Spencer House Senior Center, 5596 Morris Street, Halifax, N.S. B3J 1C2, Canadian Lung Association or to the charity of one’s choice.
