Obituary of Betty George
GEORGE (Oulton), Jean Elizabeth Carter passed away at the age of 93 at the Drew Nursing Home on July 5, 2016 where she was a resident for the last 3 months. Betty passed away as she would have loved, with her family by her side.
Born in Mapleburg, N.B. (Frosty Hollow) in 1923, she was the daughter of the late George and Alice (Richardson) Carter. Betty was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Betty was a graduate of Mount Allison Academy, a lifetime member of the Sackville Curling Club as well as a life time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Branch #26, Sackville. Betty enjoyed curling, quilting, crocheting, and knitting, continuing to supply socks for birthdays and Christmas up until her passing.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by her children, Carol (Doug) Strandberg, Doug (Nancy) Oulton and Peter Oulton, all of Sackville, N.B.; her step-children, Margaret Ann (Max) Swanson of Harvey, N.B. and Mary (Royce) Clark of Miramichi, N.B.; 6 grandchildren, Wayne, Greg, Wendy, Nickie, Kate and Thomas; 5 step-grandchildren, Tanya, Eric, Andrew, Jeff and Mike and by many great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband of 32 years, Art George on June 14, 2009; her first husband, Borden Oulton on May 3, 1968; three brothers, Carl, Thomas and Bradford and by her sister, Barbara McAllister.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). A memorial service will take place at the funeral home on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 1 pm with The Rev’d Dr. Ranall Ingalls officiating. The burial will take place in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens, Moncton, N.B.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Betty may be made to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Drew Nursing Home or to the charity of one’s choice.
