Oh dear Michelle and family, We only learned of Frank’s illness and death a few moments ago. We are in shock. We feel so very sorry. He will be deeply missed by so many. We will never forget our good times in Cuba, meeting by chance there and enjoying drinks together in the happy atmosphere at Paradisus Rio De Oro. Frank was a tremendous musician and I will always think of him sitting in the big Sappy Fest tent on Bridge with his guitar singing long, strophic sea shanty ballades! Please accept our love, and our support when and if needed.

My heartfelt condolences to Michelle and family. Frank was an economic consultant with my firm (headquartered in Calgary) from 2003 to March of 2026. During the course of this work, Frank testified in court on behalf of our jointly signed reports -- an experience he mastered with deftness, honesty, and of course deep expertise in economics - something few economic experts in Canada can claim. And in dealing with economic concepts or litigation critiques, there was little daylight between Frank and I on most subjects. His consultancy with us was a massive success -- made more so by Frank's inimitable calm and professionalism. I will miss him.

My condolences and sympathies to Michelle and family on Frank’s passing. Frank and I were students together in the 1974/75 Economics program at UPEI. We were a small group of students which provided ongoing opportunities to get to know, study and party together. The UPEI library was our second home. It seems like a short time ago. Frank was a great student and friend during those times. Rest in peace old friend.

Frank was a kind and generous man. He started his career at MTA the same year I started as a freshman student. Although I was not an economics major I took 3 courses with him. More importantly, though, Frank was instrumental in helping me make a successful application for a graduate scholarship that took me to UBC. He invited me to his home to have lunch (homemade corn chowder!) with him to discuss and review my application and plans, and his input and feedback was very helpful. I am more than certain that many other MTA students over the years benefited similarly from his kindness and wisdom.

Dear Michelle and family -- my deep condolences to you all. Frank was absolutely delightful -- to work with, to play pool with, and to listen to either at your house or Geroge's Roadhouse. Some of my best memories of Sackville involve Frank, who really epitomized Maritime good humour and good cheer for me. I am so, so sorry for your loss.

Dear Michelle and family, Our condolences on Frank's passsing. He was a wonderful individual and we have very fond memories of you both from when we were at Mount Allison. When I arrived in Sackville at Canadian Studies, many at the university were helpful but Frank was among the most generous withh his time. He, Penny Bryden and I organized several conference and edited a couple of books. He always had a good sense of humour and was always ready with sage advice when I reached out. Hello Frank's family and friends:
Where do I begin with my thoughts on Frank. A warm, generous, caring and intelligent person with a great sense of humour. I think of Frank as being born with a Gibson guitar in his hand. He and Michelle have been so generous hosting musical get togethers over the years and both me and Donna have so many wonderful memories of Sackville because of that. They really added to the sense of community in Sackville-and for those 'ex-pats' who passed through MT A for a year or two. Years later, I still play
'Frank's songs.' His passions were his family, music, his friends, his students and the Sackville community.

When I look back on my time in Sackville at Mount Allison, some of my fondest memories take place at Frank’s, the economics crew sitting around enjoying pizza and beer (which we of course had plotted on many a graph in our lessons). Frank’s humour, generosity, insight, and knowledge shaped so many experiences we had. I enjoyed keeping up with him over the years, and am so grateful for all he shared with us. He will be truly missed.

I had the privilege to be a student of Frank's at MTA in the early 90s. He had an amazing mind. Leading by example with gentle questioning and observation, he encouraged me to think. What a gift. Frank is a massive influence on my own love and teaching of Economics. Thank you Dr. Strain. You are now in the house of 1000 guitars.

Dear Michelle and family,
I was very saddened to learn that Frank passed away yesterday. I remember him as a dedicated faculty member and congenial colleague. Several times over the years that I was at Mt A Frank would talk to me about the financial issues facing the university, and would often send me data to back up his views. I found him very friendly and helpful.
Carla and I are sorry at the loss of your husband, father ad grandfather at such a young age. We send our sincere condolences.
