Obituary of Clarence Hubert Burns

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Clarence Hubert Burns on Thursday, August 6, 2026. Clarence passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 90.

Born in Cape Tormentine, NB on March 1, 1936, he was the son of the late George Borden Burns and Stella Elizabeth (Banks) Burns.

Clarence worked for Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway on the trains for thirty-eight years until his retirement in 1994. When not at work and after retirement, he could be found in the garage working on cars or he was on the tractor. He was a pivotal member of the Cape Tormentine Development Committee and helped to build the Cape Tormentine Campground. Clarence enjoyed hunting and farming and he was always willing to help when someone needed something. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Clarence will be lovingly remembered by his children, Robert (Sherry), Allen (Maryse), Diane (Dennis), Lee (Della), Brian (Velvet) and Russell (Lise); his grandchildren, Shawn, Natalie (Oliver), Peter (Stacy), Maxime, Cederic, Jeremy (McKenna), Thierry, Amanda, Deanna (Brandon), Priscilla (Pierre-Luc), Brison and Matthew; his four great-grandchildren, Lucy and Lila and Conrad and Khloe; his faithful companion, Coco; his cousin, Thomas (Marjorie); his sisters-in-law, Carol Burns and Margaret (Winston) Lake; his brother-in-law, Stanley (Vicki) Allen, as well as by Sadie’s daughter, Lise Morrison.

Besides his parents, Clarence was pre-deceased by his wife, Evelyn Verda (Allen) Burns in 2002; his brother, David Burns, as well as by his companion, Sadie Gaudet in 2018.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge St., Sackville, NB 506-364-8188. In keeping with Clarence’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will take place in the Bayfield Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Clarence’s life to be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #81, 72 Route 955, Cape Tormentine, NB. All are invited to attend and food donations are welcomed.

If so desired, donations in memory of Clarence may be made to the Bayfield Cemetery or to the charity of one’s choice.
