Obituary of Hazel Mary (Carter) Berry

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hazel Mary (Carter) Berry on Friday, July 17, 2026 at the Drew Nursing Home at the age of 88. 

Born in Aulac, NB she was the daughter of the late Mary Ann (Mitchell Brown Cunningham) and Garnet Millage Carter.

Hazel was employed with the Liquor Commission until her retirement. She was a member of the Sackville Curling Club, Sackville Golf and Country Club and the Sackville Rod and Gun Club. She enjoyed playing cards, horseshoes, washer toss, curling, golfing, range shooting and she had many trophies and medals to show for her determination and skill. Hazel also enjoyed attending the bluegrass music festivals at Johnson’s Mills. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Hazel will be lovingly remembered by her children, John (Bonnie) Brownell, Jean Brownell and Stanley Brownell; her sister, Audrey (Paul) Spence; her five grandchildren, Travis (Tina) Brownell, Miranda (Ronnie) Beal, Lesley Brownell, Taryn Brownell and Olivia Brownell; her nine great-grandchildren, Isacc, Libby, Aleah, Emmie, Madison, Caleb, Addy, Bria and Cohen, as well as by her many nieces, nephews extended family and friends.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert “Bob” Berry ; her first husband, Alton Brownell; her sons, Bruce Brownell and Leslie Brownell; her great-granddaughter, Sara Brownell; her sisters, Hilda, Gladys and Marga Jean, as well as by her brothers, Alan, Ronald and Donald.  

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville N.B. (506) 364-8188.  Honoring Hazel’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a graveside service on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 1 pm at the at the Midgic Cemetery with Pastor Mark Reece officiating. Everyone is welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Hazel may be made to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Foundation, Drew Nursing Home, Sackville Curling Club, Sackville Golf and Country Club or to the charity of one’s choice.
