Obituary of David Paul Stright

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of David Paul Stright, age 67, of Murray Corner, NB. David passed peacefully at the Sackville Memorial Hospital with his family by his side, after a brief battle with cancer.   

Born in Sackville NB, David was the son of Betty Isabelle Stright (nee Allen) of Murray Corner and the late Raymond Calvin Stright. 

David grew up in Murray Corner and chose to follow in his father’s footsteps as a lobster fisherman in Murray Corner and a lobster buyer at Fortune Harbour, PEI, each spring. 

David loved spending time at the family cottage, enjoying the time spent with family and friends. He loved bonfires and music, which could be heard coming from his trailer. He was the music man for the annual September Washer Toss Tournament. One of his most favorite things to do was to find a wharf somewhere and sit in his vehicle and enjoy the view of the water and the boats in the harbor. 

David was a big football (Green Bay Packers) fan and a huge hockey (Montreal Canadiens) fan. In his younger years he played both of these sports.  

David was a dog lover and they loved him. His last dog, Ringo went everywhere with him, and was very special to him.  

His title of Grampy filled his heart with joy and pride. 

David was a people person and his family and friendship circle was huge. This was truly evident by the number of visitors he had over his stay in the hospital.  

Spending two months each spring on PEI, Dave joined a group of friends for a Lobster Boil and named themselves "The Swillbags"!  This became an annual event with this year marking the 47th reunion. This event is held the second Saturday of June each year, which this year is June 13th, which is also the date of David’s passing. 

David will be greatly missed by his mother, Betty; his sons, Calvin and Colby; his grandchildren, Leya and Mason; his brothers, Larry (Patricia) and Gordon (Louise); his sisters, Peggy Brander (Robert), Linda Parsons (Garry), Beth Beal (Raymond) and Heidi Daigle (Marcel); as well as by the mother of his children, Sandra Stright.

David was an uncle; a great-uncle and a great-great uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, as well as having numerous cousins. He had a very special and close relationship with his uncle, Donnie and with his aunt, Violet Stright. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, Sackville, NB. In keeping with David's wishes, cremtaion has taken place and there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date, with details to be announced.

The Stright Family would like to thank ALL of the staff at the Sackville Memorial Hospital..the Doctors, the Nurses, the Rehab staff, the Palliative Care Team, Cafeteria and Cleaning staff. The care, concern and respect shown to David and to our family truly helped us during this difficult and sad time. Special thanks to Dr. Wall who kept the family informed of everything that was happening and answered our questions with great patience and care for both David and us. 

Also, thank you to David’s friends and family for the visits, the treats and the love shown to him. A special mention of thanks to his buddy, Mike Allen, who was there day and night to help him with whatever he needed.
