Obituary of Laurie Edward Sears

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Laurie Edward Sears, of Sackville, at the age of 86. Laurie passed away on November 12,2025 at the Drew Nursing Home surrounded by his family, Drew family and friends.

Laurie spent many years employed at Enterprise Foundry where he worked assembling gas and electric stoves. It was well known that one of his best skills there was screwing down the lunch cans and gloves of his coworkers when they were crazy enough to turn their backs to him. After its closure, he enjoyed his days as a handyman where he did everything from lawn care and gardening to painting and small carpentry jobs. He loved playing ball and was considered a heck of a pitcher. He also enjoyed bowling, darts, fishing and playing cards (but never for money). One of his favorite pastimes was riding his bike to the river to chat with people and then have a nap. He also loved sitting outside in his chair, working on his tan, talking to and feeding the birds and hoping someone would walk by so he could strike up a conversation. He liked sitting on the benches in town or in his special chair at the Post Office where he could talk to the girls with the “pretty eyes”. He considered himself a fairly good whistler and could often be heard around town whistling a tune. He told us he even taught a few special people his skill and was very proud of himself. It’s also been said that “back in the day” he considered himself a bit of an educator and loved nothing more than to expand the vocabulary of some of the youngsters (if you know, you know).

We want to give a very special thank you to Debbie A (The Boss ) and to Nancy L. We are not sure what Dad would have done without you or what we would have done without you either. You made his days the best they could be and treated him like your own family. You could always make him laugh and smile even when you were trying to keep him out of trouble. He told me almost every time we were there that he had it made. He loved you both, as do all of us, and we will always be eternally grateful for the kindness and caring you so generously gave him. This world needs more people like you.

Laurie will be missed by his wife, Cora, Sackville; his children,  Laurie, Port Elgin, Dale (Patti), Sackville, Angie (Maurice), Sackville, Paul (Tracie), Parrsboro as well as his grandchildren; Robert aka Grampies boy (Jolyne), Ethan (Jocelyn), Andrea, Morgan (Jesse), Ria (Pat), Zachery (Samantha), Chad. Also, his three great grandchildren;  Baydon, Bradley and Melodie. Laurie will also be missed by his siblings Winnie, Reggie, Edith as well as many nieces and nephews.
