Linda (Hicks) Troop

Obituary of Linda Dale (Hicks) Troop

It is with great sadness that the family of Linda Dale (Hicks) Troop, age 80, of Sackville, N.B., announces her passing on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

Born on June 14, 1945 in Amherst, NS to the late Lindell and Marion (Kenney), Linda grew up on Kirk Street in Sackville. In addition to her parents, she was raised by her older sisters and brother, who always called her their “baby sister.”

After attending Oulton Business College, Linda worked in the engineering department at Enterprise Foundry. It was through her brother that she met a local mechanic, Leaman Troop, who quickly caught her attention. They married in September 1965 and recently celebrated 60 wonderful years together.

Linda devoted her life to her family, staying home to raise her children, care for her mother, and later helped with her grandchildren. A true homebody, she found joy in her cozy bungalow in Midgic, where she spent countless happy hours baking, cooking, and doing crafts, especially with her grandchildren.

She cherished her weekly shopping trips and restaurant lunches, first with her mother and later with her daughter, a tradition that became an unbreakable ritual. She also looked forward to her daily chats with her son, which always brightened her day.

Linda’s world revolved around her family. She cared deeply for everyone and adored her little dog, Penny. Her children and grandchildren shared an incredibly close bond with her, one built on love, laughter, and endless special moments. She loved her simple life, always greeting everyone with a smile, a warm sense of humor and her sweet laugh.

Over 40 years ago, Linda bravely fought and beat her first battle with cancer. In 2021, she faced a new diagnosis of double lung cancer, along with several strokes, which led to her move to Westford Nursing Home. Linda’s family is forever grateful to the compassionate staff there, who became like family to her.

Linda was predeceased by her siblings, Shirley (George) Vautour, Norma (Alex) Martin and Charles “Sonny” Hicks, as well as by her brother-in-law, William (Barb) McKnight.

She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Leaman; her son, James "Jim" (Dawn) Troop; her daughter, Alison (Bruce) Grant; her grandchildren, Jessica (Chase) Petkau, Jordan Troop, Cassidy Grant (Bradley Brooker) and Maddison Troop (Jesse Goodwin); her sister, Barb McKnight, as well as by several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the teams at the Oncology Centre at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital, the Moncton Hospital, Sackville Memorial Hospital, Westford Nursing Home and to all the friends and family who supported them with love and care throughout Linda’s journey.

Linda will be remembered always for her kindness, strength, and the love she gave so freely.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and the staff at Campbells Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville NB. (506) 364-8188. Following Linda’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visiting hours or funeral service.
