Obituary of Donald Brian Patterson
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Donald Brian Patterson, age 65. “Donnie” passed away peacefully at his home on September 8th, following his courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sackville, N.B. on July 30th, 1960, he was the son of the late Flona Marjorie (Amos) and Douglas Alonzo Patterson.
Donnie served 18 plus years in the military with the 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s) and then worked 27 plus years with the Corps of Commissionaires at the Dorchester Penitentiary.
Donnie loved life. He enjoyed watching wrestling, spending time with his family, fixing things (that never actually got fixed), puttering around the house and yard, and playing solitaire on his phone. Donnie asked everyone to remember him with joy, and without tears.
It is indisputable that Donnie’s greatest love was his family. He will be lovingly remembered by his common-law spouse of 35 years, Carmella Hollis; his three daughters, Ashley Patterson (Steph) of Middleton, NB, Emily Patterson of Middleton, NB, and Michelle Patterson of Amherst, NS; his bonus son, Nathan LeBlanc of Middleton, NB; and his only granddaughter, Zola Patterson of Middleton, NB. He is also survived by his brother, Ellsworth (Greta) Patterson of Sackville, NB, and his sister-in-law, Ray (Latulippe) Patterson, who was more like a mother to him. Donnie will be fondly remembered by many friends, coworkers, and extended family members.
Besides his parents, Donnie was predeceased by his siblings Dougie Patterson, George (infant) Patterson, Myrville Patterson, Gwen Mitton, and Robert Patterson.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home (89 Bridge Street, Sackville, 506-364-8188). In keeping with Donnie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Donald may be made to the IWK or to the charity of one’s choice.
