Obituary of Kevin Gareth Johnston

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kevin (KDAWG) Johnston on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 26th. Kevin passed peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones after a courageous fight against cancer.

He is survived by his son, Brendan (Jill) Melanson-Johnston of Sackville NB; his daughter, BreeAnn Johnston of Montreal QC; loved as his own, Brad (Tia) Melanson and Emilia (Millie) Pintin, all of Sackville NB, as well as by his two beautiful grandchildren, Aubrey & Eli Read-Johnston.

Kevin was pre-deceased by his mother, Mavis Olive (Williams) Johnston, as well as by his father, Keith Vaughn Johnston.

Kevin will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his children and Brendan’s closest friends who gave them their nicknames, KDAWG and KPUP. He will also be greatly missed by his closest and dearest friends & family, Ricky, Pat, Gary, Bobby, Lorne and Brendan’s mom, Sandy, including many other family and friends, too numerous to name here. He will also be missed dearly by his dog Khaos.

Kevin was born and raised in Chomedey QC., he also lived in Oakville ON and Fredericton NB, eventually choosing his forever home in Sackville NB. He was an avid sports fan but was a Raiders and Bruins fan at heart no matter how badly they played. Kevin had a noticeable presence at all the local games supporting his son and the Titans and MTA teams throughout the years. In his younger years he made a great coach for the Oakville Longhorns. Kevin had a love of fast cars which he proudly cruised around town in to show off or take drives to the beach. Over the years Kevin tried his hand at meat cutting, bricklaying, construction and satellite TV installation, finally setting on a job he dearly loved, truck driving. Grateful to have begun his career locally with Baughan’s Trucking and thankful to have finished his career with the great people at Maritime Pride Eggs in Amherst, NS.

Kevin was a loving and proud father, grandfather and a solid friend. He will be remembered for his caring, positive nature, his understanding and compassion towards others, but most definitely for his hair (you know it’s true) and of course for his love of life. May he forever be at peace!

We are forever grateful to all those who took the time to text, call, visit, Facebook kind words, drove him to treatments, brought him food, stayed by his side day or night, donated money but more importantly for your love and support. Thank You!

Thank you very much to the compassionate and caring staff at Tantramar Extra Mural Services, to Erin and Campbell’s Funeral Home as well as a special thanks to Tammy Brown, Jason Kerley and especially Dorothy Coates for your love and support during Kevin’s most difficult time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, NB (506) 364-8188. In keeping with Kevin’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will take place at the Sackville Legion on Saturday, August 30th from 2-4pm and all are invited to attend.

Donations in Kevin’s memory may be made to the Sackville Minor Football or Minor Hockey Associations.
