Susan Snowdon

Obituary of Susan Snowdon

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Snowdon on July 22, 2025. Susan passed away at the age of 71 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital surrounded by her husband and children.

Susan was born on September 28, 1953 to the late Doreen (Bembridge) and Roy Snowdon in Woodpoint, NB.

Susan will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by a vast amount of people, including her husband, James Hennessy; her girls, Erin (Jean-Sébastien) Hennessy, Tina Hennessy, and Kathy Hennessy; her grandchildren, Liam Chiasson, Brandon White, and Lindsay (Cody) White; her great-granddaughter Madelyn Pickoski; her sisters, Barbara Siddall, Marilyn (Roger) Richard, and Bonnie Snowdon; her brothers, Michael (Isobel) Snowdon and David Snowdon; too many nieces and nephews to count, as well as by many extended family and friends near and far.

Susan was pre-deceased by her parents as well as by her sisters, Donna Snowdon and Eileen Estabrooks; her niece, Brenda, as well as by her brothers-in-law, Jack Siddall and Fred Estabrooks.

Susan was known for many things - among them, her fearless approach to all things culinary. Recipes were merely polite suggestions waiting to be improved upon by whatever ingredients were handy in season and measurements to suit the mood. Legend has it that, while a devout pescatarian herself, Susan’s meatballs have brought carnivores to salivating tears of appreciation. Always known as a “maker”, the people in Susan’s life just accepted the fact that commercially made and purchased products were unnecessary and inferior expenses compared to homemade versions, which she inevitably knew how to make. Play-do, Halloween costumes, cleaning products, Tia Maria - nearly everything has a “Sue version” that is generally agreed upon as superior…and usually recyclable. Susan’s green thumb was evident in her indoor tropical jungle and outdoor flower and vegetable gardens. She continued to supervise this year’s garlic harvest remotely from her hospital bed, ever concerned until the end that they wouldn’t dry out properly. (Update: The garlic harvest is fine.) Susan loved music, camping, and especially anything that combined the two - particularly live music events where the infamous “pumpkin” Boler camper could be an integral gathering spot. With tireless energy, she was the most efficient provider. Some suspect that inexplicable energy was fueled in part by her beloved dips in any body of salt water within a 50km radius. Whether she was the host or guest, by the time other people finished discussing what might be nice for dinner Sue had already prepared the meal, with dessert warming in the oven, and follow up snacks queued up on the counter.

The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the Sackville Memorial Hospital and staff. Susan was extremely well cared for, and the kindness and compassion shown by each employee helped to make a difficult time more bearable.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). A celebration of Susan’s life will be scheduled at a later date in Sackville, NB . If so desired, donations in memory of Susan may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Bathurst Emergency Homeless Shelter or to the charity of one's choice.
