Obituary of S. Jean Poole

Age 94, of Sackville, New Brunswick, died on April 11, 2025. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was a daughter of the late Rupert and Bertha (Brooks) Parsons, both of Lushes Bight, Newfoundland.

Jean trained and worked as a nurse, graduating from the Grace Maternity Hospital in St. John’s, NL, in 1951. She and Cyril Poole were married in 1954. Following a few years in Toronto and longer stays in Lennoxville, Quebec and Sackville, they moved back to Newfoundland in 1977, living first in Corner Brook and then St. John’s. Jean and Cyril spent many happy summer days cruising the waters of Notre Dame Bay aboard their beloved Primrose II and III. Jean kept the crews well provisioned and the entire operation afloat. In 1995, Jean and Cyril moved back to Sackville, where their house on Raworth Heights became a second home to children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Janet (Bill Geier), Sackville and Deborah (Eric Sloan), Murray Corner, NB; her son, Stephen (Margaret Doane), Halifax; her grandchildren, Stephen (Megan Mitton) and Michael Geier (Philippa Payne), Erin, Laura (Michael Thrupp) and Patrick Sloan (Leanne Roach), Matthew, Emily (Nathan Otley) and Lucy Poole, as well as by her great-grandchildren, Quinn and Henry Geier, Alice and Jack Thrupp.
