Obituary of Gordon Nelson Stokes
It is with deepest sorrow that the family of Gordon Nelson Stokes announces his recent and unexpected passing on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at the age of 66.
Gordon was born in Sackville, NB to the late Nelson and Bernice (Wheaton) Stokes. At the age of three, the family moved to Oshawa, Ontario. He made summer trips back to Sackville to see his grandparents and cousins and he returned to stay in 1984 when he met his future wife.
Through Gordon’s life he did different jobs but the longest one was when he was an owner/operator with SLH. He also was an excellent welder and carpenter, and he could fabricate things from wood or metal and make it work. He was a “Jack of all trades”.
In his retirement, he enjoyed fishing and meeting up with his friends for coffee and, of course, his dog, Tessa, tagged along with him.
Gordon will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 33 years, Debbie (Bird) Stokes; his two step-children, Matthew (Michelle) and Lisa (Paul); his grandchildren, Maddison, Mitchell, Mackenzie, Meaghan, Cole and Aiden; his one great-grandchild, Brielle, as well as by his mother-in-law, Beatrice Bird.
He is also survived by his two sisters, Donna Stokes and Holly (Claude) Blacksky; brothers-in-law, Paul (Elaine) Bird and Stephen (Sandra) Bird; sister-in-law, Donna (Skip) O’Neill; his uncle, Ernest Wheaton, as well as by many nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his uncle, Howard Stokes, as well as by his niece, Amber.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and the staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville N.B. (506) 364-8188. Following Gordon’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visiting hours or funeral service at this time. Debbie welcomes family and friends to stop by at the house for a visit anytime to share memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gordon’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, NB Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of one’s choice.
