Obituary of Heather J. (Bettle) Allen

With deep sorrow and much love, we announce the passing of Heather Joan (Bettle) Allen of Baie Verte, NB, on March 1st, 2025, at the age of 65 years young. Heather passed away peacefully at her home in Baie Verte, with her loving family by her side.

Born on September 28, 1959, in Hampton, NB, she was the daughter of Irene (Gillis) Bettle and the late Gerald A. Bettle. Heather will be lovingly remembered by Dale, her husband of 47 years; her children, Cindy and Shaun (Chrissy); and her cherished grandchildren, Euan, Kaleigh, Caris, and Cash; her brothers, Bill (Jacqueline) Bettle and Mike (Kim) Bettle; her sisters, Marilyn (Larry) LaChappelle and Dorothy (Phil) Knight; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her father, she was predeceased by her brothers, David and John, and her sisters, Susan, and Linda.

Mom dedicated her early years to raising her children. We were so fortunate to have a mom who sang to us every morning and welcomed us home from school each day. Once we were old enough to be on our own, she re-entered the workforce, taking on roles at the Gaspereaux Restaurant and Allen’s Petro-Can before ultimately finding her place at Atlantic Windows.

Mom had a deep love for her family and her community. She was the kind of person who always took the time to listen, making everyone feel truly special. With her quick wit and infectious laughter, she had a remarkable ability to lift others up when they were feeling down. I cannot count the number of times we were stopped in a store or restaurant by someone who recognized her from work—each one eager to share a fond memory or a funny story about Mom.

Baking was both her favorite hobby and her love language. She baked for our lunches, every school party, cakes for friends’ birthdays, and even handcrafted a delicious Chinese dinner each summer for our family reunion. At Halloween, she made massive treat bags filled with fudge for all her colleagues, care packages for Shaun, Chrissy, and the kids out west, and at Christmas, she spent weeks stocking the freezer with homemade goodies, ensuring she had enough to create sweet trays for everyone. Her ‘diet bonbons’ were legendary.

As a devoted member of the IWK Committee at work, Mom would spend entire weekends baking for bake sales, donating pies for auctions, and cooking chili or turkey dinners for fundraisers. She even organized her own bake sale alongside a Masonic Lodge breakfast to help raise funds for a TRHS graduating student bursary. I would not be surprised if the Westmorland Masonic Lodge made her an honorary member—she poured her heart into everything she did, always thinking of others first.

Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses who cared for Mom throughout her hospital stays, the compassionate palliative care team, the dedicated extra-mural nurses, her kind-hearted respiratory therapist, and her loving caregiver, Angela, who all treated her as if she were their own family. Your kindness, dedication, and warmth brought comfort not only to Mom but to all of us. We are forever grateful and will hold you in our hearts always.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (506) 364-8188. In keeping with Heather’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A public visitation will take place at the Westmorland Masonic Lodge on Saturday, March 8th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with a funeral service to be held at the St. James United Church in Baie Verte on Sunday, March 9th at 3pm. A reception will follow the service, and all are invited to attend. A graveside service will take place at the Baie Verte Cemetery at a later date.

If so desired, donations in memory of Heather may be made to the IWK Children’s Hospital or to the charity of one’s choice.
