Obituary of James Ross Ayer
Moncton, N.B.- It is with sadness that the family of James Ross Ayer, announce his passing on April 30, 2010 at the Moncton Hospital. Jim was 88 years of age.
Born in Moncton, N.B. on February 1, 1922, he was the son of the late Amos and Doris (Crandall) Ayer.
Jim grew up in Sackville, N.B. and after graduation from High School, he served in the RCAF as a pilot in the Second World War. Following the war, he attended and graduated from UNB with a BSCEE and subsequently worked for utility companies in Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Alberta. Following his retirement in 1982, Jim enjoyed sailing. He was an avid curler and he and his son Frank represented New Brunswick in the Briar in Kelowna, BC in 1968. Jim was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
Jim will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years, Ellen (West) Ayer of Moncton, N.B.; four sons, Frank of Calgary, AB, John (Lee) of Dartmouth, N.S., George (Birte) of Toronto, ON and Douglas (Marlene) of Lacombe, AB; his daughter, Janet (Norman) Gilles of Alix, AB; his brother, Carl (Sharon) of Pointe-de-Chene, N.B.; his sister, Catherine McKay of Fredericton, N.B.; sister-in-law, Phyllis Sutherland of Rothesay, N.B.; four grandsons, Jim, Joel, Lance and Tyler; great-granddaughter, Emily Ayer and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Matthew Ayer.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). Cremation has taken place and in keeping with Jim’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private burial will take place in the Sackville Cemetery at a later date.
