William McLellan

Obituary of William Donald McLellan

Sackville, NB. On Friday, October 2, 2015, Bill McLellan passed away peacefully at the Drew Nursing Home. Bill was born in Saint John on September 11, 1925 to William E. and Grace (Finley) McLellan; he married Maxine Hill (d. 2007) in 1950. They had three sons: William (d. 2010), David and James, and two grandsons, William and Owen. From his youth, Bill was attracted to a rural life, with a lifelong passion for being outdoors. His work as a surveyor took him to northern New Brunswick and the Northwest Territories. After a 12-year stint in Ottawa, Bill returned home to New Brunswick in 1972, built a house on Silver Lake in Sackville, and retired there. Once there, he had time to devote to the four things dearest to his heart: daily visits to his woodlot, fishing on the Miramichi River, meeting with his fellow Masons, and overseeing the care and renewal of the Upper Sackville United Church. Just prior to entering the Drew Nursing Home, he had one final fishing expedition with his son, William, resulting in a catch of two salmon and exceptional feelings of kinship, not knowing at the time that his son would predecease him. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-8188). In keeping with William’s wishes, cremation without ceremony has taken place; any donations in Bill’s memory can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
